We are proud to showcase a completed project, which we delivered as the main contractor, a comprehensive external refurbishment on the historic Wheat Wharf building, located in the heart of Shad Thames.

Wheat Wharf, a Grade II-listed structure with a rich maritime history dating back to the 19th century, has long been a cornerstone of London’s riverside heritage. Nestled along the bustling Thames, Shad Thames is renowned for its unique blend of historic warehouses and modern developments.

Our team undertook a meticulous restoration process, respecting the building’s listed status and architectural significance. The project involved:

External restoration – including the repair and conservation of original listed features.
Restoration and decoration of all external façade elements.
Installation of conservation-approved large skylights, bringing natural light into the historic interior.
Replacement of the roof covering with traditional slates, maintaining the building’s aesthetic, whilst incorporating an improved level of thermal performance within the new roof build up.
Extensive leadwork to ensure weather-tightness and durability.
Complex access arrangements and scaffolding, expertly protected from the elements to ensure safety and quality throughout the works.
Traditional construction methods on the roof, aligning with conservation best practices.

The project demanded significant stakeholder engagement, coordinating with heritage bodies, local authorities, and the client to ensure all aspects met stringent conservation standards.

This refurbishment not only preserves a piece of London’s history but also revitalises Wheat Wharf as a functional, beautiful space that respects its storied past and provides the tenants with an improved building in terms of performance.
